Active Ingredients in the Deanna Protocol®
AAKG
AAKG is alpha-ketogluterate (AKG) with arginine (A) added to it. Alphaketogluterate (AKG) is an essential molecule in the Krebs cycle. The Krebs cycle is responsible for energy production that keeps cells alive and functioning the way they should. Arginine is an ingredient in the Deanna Protocol® that makes the AKG easier on the digestive system.
GABA
Gamma-Aminobutyric acid is an amino acid produced naturally in the brain. GABA functions as a neurotransmitter, facilitating communication among brain cells. GABA’s big role in the body is to reduce the activity of neurons in the brain and central nervous system. (Several studies show that GABA may not pass the blood brain barrier (BBB*). However, we know that the BBB in those neurodegenerative diseases is not in-tact and, therefore, allows GABA to pass through and be effective.)
*The BBB is a filtering mechanism of the capillaries that block certain substances from reaching the brain and spinal-chord.
Directions for taking the Deanna Protocol®
- Take one heaping scoop mixed with 8 (or more) oz of water and a full meal, 2 – 3 times daily.
- If muscle twitching, fasciculations, and cramping continue, increase servings until symptoms stop. Do not exceed 9 scoops per day (3 scoops 3 times daily).
- If you experience muscle cramping at maximum servings, but twitching and fasciculations have ceased, take GABA pills along with the Deanna Protocol® until cramping stops. Be sure to consider quality and purity over price when shopping for GABA supplements. Not all supplements have the same bioavailability and equal effectiveness.
- If you experience stomach discomfort, decrease servings until this stops. Then, increase dosage very gradually every 1-2 weeks to allow stomach to acclimate.
- This product retains potency best when refrigerated.
PRODUCT FACTS
The facts, in one place
What is in it, what it does, how long it lasts and the evidence behind it.
| Intended use | cellular energy and motor function support |
|---|---|
| Product form | powder (scoop) |
| Best for | Ideal for an existing Deanna Protocol® user who needs a medium daily serving, or for a household that wants two tubs delivered together. |
| Key benefits | Two tubs, about 180 heaping scoops: the medium serving size, 20 percent subscription saving, compared with 15 percent on the 1 Pack, Designed to support motor function, neural signaling and cellular energy, Patented formula of nutrients naturally found in the body: AKG, arginine and GABA, Unflavored or Citrus Medley, with the same amount of actives in each, Made in the United States in a CGMP facility; every batch tested |
| How to use | One serving is one heaping scoop mixed with an 8 to 12 oz glass of water, taken with a full meal. New users begin with three servings a day, each taken with food. If you do not achieve the desired results at the lowest serving quantity, steadily increase daily servings, not exceeding nine servings a day unless you receive specific approval from your doctor. If you experience stomach discomfort, decrease servings until it stops, then increase very gradually every one to two weeks so your stomach can acclimate. This product retains potency best when refrigerated; open one tub at a time. The unflavored scoop is a bit smaller than the Citrus Medley scoop but delivers the same amount of active ingredients, so take the same number of scoops. Always consult your physician when taking the Deanna Protocol®. |
| How often | three servings a day with meals to start; up to nine a day only with your doctor's approval |
| Who it is for | This product is for people living with ALS, and the caregivers who order for them, who already take the Deanna Protocol® and require a larger serving than the starter size, or who want two months of supply in one order. The medium serving size is recommended only for existing users; if you are new to the protocol, start with the 1 Pack and three servings a day. As with any dietary supplement, check with your doctor to make sure following the protocol is safe for you specifically. |
| Key ingredients | Alpha-ketoglutarate (AKG) (an essential molecule in the Krebs cycle, the energy-production pathway that keeps cells alive and functioning); L-arginine (added to the AKG as AAKG to make it easier on the digestive system); Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) (an amino acid produced naturally in the brain that functions as a neurotransmitter, facilitating communication among brain cells). |

| What to expect | Results vary from person to person. The protocol is taken daily with meals and adjusted gradually: begin at three servings a day, and if you do not achieve the desired results at the lowest serving, increase steadily toward the nine-a-day ceiling with your doctor's approval, allowing one to two weeks between increases. Two tubs last about two months at three scoops a day and about a month at six scoops a day. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. This product is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. |
